Connecting with yourself
is the key to living a fulfilled life.

Alice Schaefer Retreat a Little

I'm Alice, the Director and Founder of Retreat a Little. For over two decades, I have created some of the world’s top brand experiences in pharmaceuticals and medical devices in Australia and overseas. Working closely with healthcare workers, I saw first-hand how our lifestyle choices and work can contribute to chronic illnesses, through our constant fight, flight and freeze responses. This doesn’t just impact our own quality of life, but also creates a massive burden on our healthcare system.

I have now set out on a mission to tackle the problem at the root cause, trying to improve personal and professional well-being by collaborating with entrepreneurs and leaders around Australia and the world. Together, we bring to life bespoke well-being retreats, leadership retreats and masterclasses to foster the connection with ourselves and with those around us.

For me, personal and professional well-being go hand in hand! Whatever is going on at home can impact our work and vice versa. As Brené Brown says, “who we are is how we lead”, I have put my own twist on it “who we are is how we show up”.

I was diagnosed with a chronic illness in 2019 and knew what the worst-case scenario looked like. To top it off, we also have a long history of mental health issues in our family. This combination was the wake-up call that I needed and my passion for human psychology, leadership, and purpose combined with my knowledge in healthcare got me onto the path of researching how to live in true alignment. A redundancy in April 2021 was the final reason and the very thing that helped me to start Retreat a Little.

Prioritising self-care, to find that inner connection again is important to fulfil us as human beings. Because when we are fulfilled, we can show up differently in the world, with our partners and children, at work and with ourselves.

Well-being Retreats - Find your inner connection again.

When was the last time you were able to purely focus on yourself?

You’re likely juggling parenthood, work and partner duties all at the same time—and finding you-time is proving to be a bit tricky. Prioritising self-care is not something that comes naturally to us, and is not something that has been taught by society or our parents.

We’re not a typical wellbeing retreat. Retreat a Little is more about learning to UN-PLUG, in your unique way. Each carefully designed itinerary balances activity with time to unwind. Everything is voluntary, so it’s up to you how much you participate in.

Our scheduled activities create the space for you to slow down, and tune into what you need and want. With retreats held all across Australia, we work closely with local leaders in well-being to bring you deep relaxation, movement, mindfulness and the perfect drop of adventure. And since we love food so much, there’ll always be delicious and nutritious food included—with a wine, if you fancy it.

Imagine two full days at a private country estate in South Australia, basking in nature and walking some of the most picturesque hiking trails—or the highlands of NSW enjoying a gourmet picnic.

Self-care is important.

I believe that you can have a successful career, be a great partner, parent and still be connected to your inner-self but not if you don’t make time to recharge your internal batteries and listen to what your inner voice is telling you.

Leadership Retreats - Investing in yourself and a fulfilling employee experience.

“Who we are is how we lead” is one of the famous quotes by Brené Brown. To me, our personal well-being impacts our ability to show up in the world, with our families and in business. Therefore, before you can take care of others you also need to take care of yourself.

This new world requires a whole-humanness approach to business and leadership! Leaders who take time to understand the needs of their employees will have an edge in attracting and retaining talent, subsequently leading to better work efficiencies, creativity and an increase in sales.

We are not your typical leadership development program! Imagine two full days at a private country estate in South Australia, basking in nature and walking some of the most picturesque hiking trails whilst coming together with like-minded leaders, who are all striving for authentic leadership and bringing out the best in people and themselves.

At Retreat a Little, we provide an environment where courageous conversations can take place, on how to enable a fulfilling employee experience in the workplace. Our leadership retreats combine what we include in our well-being retreats, enriched with leadership development!

Client Testimonials

Annie H., SA

My weekend away in beautiful Port Elliot could not have come at a more opportune time. Slightly burnt out and tempted daily by an almost irrepressible urge to tell my customers where to go, the lure of a weekend away in a glorious old estate in quirky Port Elliot was just the ticket.
